“Home for Christmas”

Inspiration for the Painting:

Christmas time is a time for good food, laughter, gathering with your family and friends… and a time to
come home.

As Newfoundlanders, “Home for Christmas” has always held high importance in our holiday traditions.
Whether it is nan’s house just down the road or traveling from the other side of the country, going
home is synonymous with Christmas. Nothing quite compares to that warm feeling of being greeted at
the front door on Christmas Eve. The tradition of family gathering at Christmas is one that we all hold
dear in our memories.

For generations, many Newfoundlanders have had to move to the mainland or abroad to find work,
which made coming home for the holidays very much a part of our culture.

The importance of spending Christmas together with your family was only strengthened in 2020 by the
fact that many were separated, and many were unable to be home for Christmas. The gatherings with
family, visits with friends, the warm hugs from those closest to our hearts… those little things we took
for granted have proved to be the things we hold dearest.

From our home to yours, may the joy of the season fill your home with the laughter of friends, and the
warmth of your family… and may you always find your way “Home for Christmas”
