“The Turkey Raffle”
Inspiration for the Painting “The Turkey Raffle”:
The Turkey Raffle was an annual occurrence with the service club in the area of which Norman Bursey was a member. Two to three weeks prior to Christmas, club members would assemble at 7:00 pm in the area of the busiest retail stores in Town. These retail stores would remain open until 9:30 pm. A frenzy of ticket selling would begin, with loud speakers and cow bells. When all tickets were sold the ticket wheel was spun. A winner comes forward, happy to have won a turkey. Then the ticket selling begins again and continues until the stores closed for the night. The Turkey Raffle continued until Christmas Eve. There was always a drive for one charitable cause or another. These events gave a good feeling to everyone.
